In the heyday of the poster, the French public clamored to get their hands on posters. They peeled them from the walls of buildings, they bribed printers to save them an extra and they joined clubs where they could compare and trade with other collectors.

For those who couldn’t go through the trouble but still wanted to join the poster collecting craze, Jules Cheret created “Les Maîtres de l’Affiche” or “The Masters of the Poster.” These miniatures of famous posters presented images of the finest poster designs from around the world and were offered by subscription to collectors. Once signed up, the collector would receive 4 miniatures every month in a paper folio in which to bind the collection.
